A Power Development Department (PDD) employee succumbed two days after suffering an electric shock while repairing a transformer in Monghal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The deceased, identified as Abdul Hameed, son of Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Monghal, Anantnag, was initially rushed to District Hospital Anantnag and later referred to SKIMS Soura, Srinagar, where he succumbed to his injuries despite all medical efforts. Doctors said he had sustained multiple burn injuries and his condition remained critical.
According to his colleagues, the tragic incident occurred when Abdul Hameed came into contact with a live service line during repair work on a transformer on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Jammu & Kashmir Electrical Employees Union (JKEEU) expressed profound grief over the demise of the employee. In a condolence note, the Union prayed for Jannat-ul-Firdous for the departed soul and strength and patience for the bereaved family. The Union, led by Unit President Asif Iqbal, assured full support to the family in this hour of grief.
The incident has raised serious concerns over safety measures for PDD field staff engaged in high-risk electrical maintenance work.
