Srinagar, Nov 11: The Kulgam Working Journalists Association (KWJA) on Tuesday elected its new executive body, reaffirming its commitment to strengthen the district’s media ecosystem and address issues faced by journalists.
The election took place at Town Hall Kulgam, where journalists from across the district participated in the voting process.
According to the election committee, senior journalist Khurshid Padroo was elected as the president of the association, while Umaisar Gull was unanimously elected as the General Secretary.

Formed in 2007, when Kulgam was declared a separate district, KWJA has been working toward building a professional, ethical, and collaborative media environment.
The association said that the oath-taking ceremony will be held separately in Kulgam, during which the remaining office-bearers will be formally inducted.
The newly elected body pledged to take up issues concerning working journalists, ensure adherence to journalistic ethics, and create a conducive environment for responsible journalism.
The association also welcomed new journalists from the district and stated that anyone wishing to join the association must be working with a registered media platform.
Journalists from Kulgam expressed gratitude to the election organising committee for conducting a transparent and democratic election.
