New Delhi, Nov 10: At least eight people have been killed and several others critically injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in central Delhi on Monday evening.
According to officials, the incident triggered a massive fire that engulfed multiple vehicles parked nearby. The Delhi Fire Department said a distress call was received soon after the blast, following which seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot to contain the blaze.
A team from the Delhi Police Special Cell and forensic experts are on the scene to investigate the nature and origin of the explosion. “We are examining all possible angles, including whether any explosive material was planted in the vehicle,” an officer at the site said.

Quoting the Medical Superintendent of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, news agency ANI reported that fifteen victims were brought to the hospital. “Eight were declared dead on arrival, while three are in critical condition. Others are being treated for burns and trauma injuries,” the official said.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and traffic has been diverted around the Red Fort stretch as investigations continue.
Officials said the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined. Further details are awaited. (KNC)
