Govt Data Reveals Huge Imbalance In Issuance Of Category Certificates

Srinagar, Oct 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday disclosed a significant regional imbalance in the issuance of category certificates used to avail reservation benefits, marking the second such revelation this year.

The official data revealed in response to a question of MLA Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman, shows that the majority of certificates across various reserved categories over the past two years were issued in the Jammu region, with Kashmir receiving a smaller share.

The data presented in the House highlighted that Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, Actual Line of Control, and other category certificates were predominantly issued in Jammu. Only the Residents of Backward Area (RBA) category showed a higher percentage of issuance in Kashmir.

According to data, out of Schedule Caste category certificates issued during the last two years -99.2 percent were issued in Jammu and 0.67 percent in Kashmir.

It revealed that out of ST category certificates issued in Jammu and Kashmir, 87.2 percent were issued in Jammu and 12.7 percent in Kashmir.

The data also laid bare that 56.6 percent of OBC category certificates were issued in Jammu and 43.4 percent in Kashmir.

It was also revealed that 88.5 percent of EWS certificates were issued in Jammu and 11.4 percent in Kashmir.

According to the reply, 33.9 percent of certificates under the RBA category were issued in Jammu and 67.1 percent in Kashmir.

As per details, 85.2 percent of ALC category certificates were issued in Jammu and 14.7 percent in Kashmir.

In March this year, official data presented by the government in the Assembly had also revealed that Jammu was primarily benefiting from reservation across various categories. (KNO)
