The first incident occurred on Saturday evening in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, where a speeding school bus ran over a herd of sheep and goats near Kunzar, killing 18 animals on the spot.

Locals said the bus was being driven rashly when it rammed into the livestock. The affected family, belonging to a poor pastoral household, said the accident had destroyed their livelihood. “These animals were our bread and butter. Losing them means we have no way left to survive,” they said, appealing for financial assistance and strict action against reckless driving.

The second accident was reported on Sunday afternoon near the Zig Jawhar Tunnel in Qazigund, south Kashmir, when a rashly driven truck struck a flock of sheep, killing 12 instantly. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was moving at high speed and did not slow down despite the animals crossing the road. Police confirmed that a case has been registered and investigations have been initiated.

Residents in both areas expressed concern over the growing menace of overspeeding. They urged authorities to strictly enforce traffic rules to prevent such incidents in the future.
