Srinagar, Sept 27: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that online messaging by the Terrorist Resistance Front (TRF) cannot be overlooked and asked people to actively counter such content to prevent instability in the region.

Speaking at a programme held in Tagore Hall, Srinagar, Sinha stated that security agencies alone cannot deal with the issue of terrorism. He emphasised that citizens also share responsibility in addressing extremist propaganda. According to him, ignoring social media activity by TRF or similar groups allows dangerous narratives to spread unchecked.

Sinha said more than 40 people have lost their lives to terrorism in recent times and added that its complete elimination requires public cooperation. He urged residents to act responsibly and avoid actions that could aid disruptive elements.

The Lieutenant Governor underlined that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has shifted over the last few years. He said incidents of stone pelting have stopped and local recruitment into armed groups has reduced. “When there is a split within a family, the solution lies in putting the house in order,” he remarked while calling for unity.

He linked recent changes to decisions taken after the removal of Article 370 in August 2019, which, according to him, opened the way for reforms. He cited the recognition of the Pahari community under the Scheduled Tribe category, strengthening of the Forest Rights Act, and observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas as examples of steps aimed at extending rights and welfare to communities that had long sought them. He said Paharis would now receive what has been due to them under law.

Sinha also drew attention to security developments beyond Jammu and Kashmir. He said extremist violence and left-wing militancy had receded in different parts of the country, particularly the northeast, and expressed confidence that Naxalism would also fade in the coming period.

“Jammu and Kashmir has carried the burden of terrorism for decades. Ending it is essential for lasting peace. The administration and security forces are committed to that task, but the contribution of ordinary people is equally necessary,” Sinha said at the event. (KNS)
