Srinagar, Sept 12: Srinagar Police, along with the Civil Administration and the Department of Food Safety, has launched a crackdown on the sale of rotten and unhygienic meat in the city.
So far, six FIRs have been registered against butchers and shopkeepers for selling substandard meat in violation of public health laws. The cases have been filed at police stations Lal Bazar, Bemina, Batamaloo, Safakadal, Ram Munshi Bagh and Zakura under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Food Safety Act.
A joint flying squad, comprising officials from the police, civil administration and food safety department, has also been constituted to conduct surprise inspections across Srinagar. During the raids, large quantities of rotten meat were seized and destroyed on the spot.

Police said strict legal action will be taken against violators, stressing that no one will be allowed to compromise public health. Citizens have been urged to stay alert and report any such practices to the nearest police station or through the designated helplines.
