Srinagar, Sept 8: The detention of Jammu and Kashmir AAP chief and MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir has drawn sharp criticism from political leaders.

AAP MLA Mehraj Malik detained under PSA

Reacting on X, MLA Pulwama Waheed Parra said he “strongly condemns” the use of PSA against Malik, calling it a draconian law weaponised to “silence political voices and crush dissent.” He added that such authoritarian measures cannot resolve differences in a democracy.

MLA Handwara and People’s Conference chief Sajad Lone also condemned the move, terming it a “soulless democracy.” He questioned the purpose of holding elections if elected representatives are not allowed to voice their concerns. “A very sad day for an already endangered democracy,” Lone said.
