Srinagar, July 22: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday dismissed Congress’s claims that his party failed to support their protest for the restoration of statehood, stating that no prior coordination or discussion was made with the National Conference.

“First of all, talk to us,” Omar said while addressing reporters during a visit to Safapora. “We only read about these protests in newspapers. No one approached us directly. Even during the recent INDIA bloc meeting, this issue wasn’t discussed. Had they coordinated, we would have surely supported it,” he added.

Omar emphasized that the National Conference was among the first to raise the demand for the return of statehood. “We passed the resolution in the Cabinet and brought it to the Assembly. Unfortunately, due to the prevailing circumstances, the resolution couldn’t be debated,” he said. He reiterated that the party’s stand on restoring statehood remains unchanged and firm.

Reacting to Congress’s recent protest, Omar said, “It’s good that they’ve now raised their voice. But if they expect support, there must be coordination. We are always ready to participate constructively.”

Omar Meets Family of Murder Victim in Safapora

During his Safapora visit, Omar met the family of a murdered woman and assured them of full support in seeking justice. “A case has been registered. God willing, justice will be delivered,” he said.

He expressed concern over the condition of the victim’s eldest son, who is suffering from a spinal injury and unable to walk. “The family has requested government assistance. We will do everything possible to support their appeal,” Omar assured.

Dhankhar’s Resignation ‘Unprecedented’: Omar

On the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Omar called it an unprecedented development. “This is the first time a Vice President has resigned. It appears his health did not allow him to continue. I pray for his speedy recovery,” he said. “Let’s hope the next Vice President upholds the dignity of the post and serves with fairness and justice.” (KNS)
