Dhaka, July 21: In a major tragedy, a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 training fighter jet crashed inside Milestone College premises in Uttara, Dhaka, killing at least 20 people and injuring 171 others.
The aircraft, piloted by Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam Sagar, took off at 1:06 PM and crashed around 1:30 PM local time. The pilot lost his life in the incident.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 14 people were brought dead to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
During the rescue operation, 16 personnel — including 14 army members, one police officer, and one firefighter — were also injured. They are receiving treatment at CMH, Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Army has expressed deep grief over the crash and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. They assured that all injured are receiving the best possible medical care.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed profound shock and sorrow over the deadly crash.
Authorities are expected to launch an investigation soon to determine the cause of the accident.
