Washington, Jun 24: U.S. President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Republican Congressman Buddy Carter from Georgia. Carter credited Trump for helping to end the recent fighting between Israel and Iran and for stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons, Fox News reported.
In a letter to the Nobel Committee, Carter described Trump’s actions as “extraordinary and historic.” He said Trump played a key role in ending the conflict and preventing the spread of nuclear weapons by Iran, which he called the world’s biggest supporter of terrorism.
The conflict, known as the “12 Day War,” started when Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran over its nuclear program. The situation quickly escalated, with both countries firing rockets at each other. Over the weekend, the U.S. also carried out airstrikes on three important Iranian nuclear sites.
Iran responded on Monday by launching rockets at a U.S. airbase in Qatar, but they gave advance warning, and no one was hurt.
Trump announced on Monday that a ceasefire would begin overnight on Tuesday. Carter praised Trump’s efforts in helping reach this agreement, calling his actions bold and decisive. He said Trump showed strong leadership that helped stop the war and gave the world hope.
Trump shared the news of his nomination on his social media platform, Truth Social, including a screenshot of the Fox News article and Carter’s letter.
This is not Trump’s first nomination. Earlier this year, another Republican lawmaker, Darrell Issa, nominated him after Trump won the 2024 election, saying his victory had a global impact.
So far, 338 people or groups have been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, according to the official Nobel website. (ANI)
