Shopian, Jun 11: In a move aimed at enhancing road safety and ensuring strict enforcement of traffic regulations, police in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have registered an FIR, booked four individuals, and seized a vehicle for reckless driving on the Mughal Road.
According to media statement, Police Station Heerpora has registered FIR No. 24/2025 under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with a case of negligent driving that posed a threat to public safety.
Initial investigation revealed that a private vehicle bearing registration number JK22B-9503 was being driven in a manner endangering the lives of other commuters. The vehicle owner, along with three co-passengers, has been booked in the case. The police have seized the car, and further legal action is underway.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian stressed the importance of responsible driving, particularly on the Mughal Road, which is a high-altitude and sensitive route. “J&K Police is committed to ensuring road safety. We urge motorists to follow traffic rules and drive cautiously for their own safety and the safety of others,” the SSP said.
The police have appealed to the public to cooperate and report any instances of dangerous or rash driving on the route, the statement reads.
