The arrests followed a complaint filed by Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Naristan, who alleged that the duo was fraudulently claiming proximity to police officials and demanding money with false assurances.

The accused have been identified as Jaliya Parveen, daughter of Mohammad Amin Rather of Monghal, Anantnag, and Bilal Ahmad Rah, son of Ghulam Ahmad Rah of Chanapora, Srinagar. According to officials, the pair allegedly exploited people summoned for questioning, using fear of legal repercussions to coerce payments.

The matter came to light after multiple victims stepped forward, reporting similar incidents of intimidation and extortion. Acting on the complaint, Police Station Tral registered an FIR (No. 62/2025) and arrested both individuals.

Police have urged the public to stay alert and avoid falling prey to such fraudulent schemes. They also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity, reaffirming their commitment to cracking down on anti-social elements and maintaining public trust
