The 77-year-old has been hospitalized at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital since May 11 due to an infection, but his health has deteriorated sharply in recent days.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Malik confirmed the severity of his condition:
“I am getting calls from many of my well-wishers which I am unable to take. My condition is very bad right now, and I am not in a position to talk to anyone.”

He also revealed that he has been undergoing kidney dialysis for the past three days, with doctors closely monitoring his situation.

Meanwhile, in a major development earlier today, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against Malik and six others in connection with alleged corruption in awarding a contract for a hydropower project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district.

The six other accused include M S Babu, Managing Director of Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd; board members M K Mittal and Arun Kumar Mishra; private secretaries Virendra Rana and Kanwar Singh Rana; and businessman Kanwaljit Singh Duggal.

CBI Files Chargesheet Against Former J&K Governor Satyapal Malik

The CBI had registered two cases in April 2022 following a request from the J&K government. The allegations pertain to:

  1. The awarding of a contract for the J&K Employees’ Health Care Insurance Scheme to a private company, involving the release of around Rs 60 crore in 2017-18.
  2. The award of a Rs 2,200-crore civil works contract for the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project to a private firm in 2019.

Satya Pal Malik, who was the Governor of J&K during the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, has been a vocal critic of the central government in recent years.
