Srinagar, May 21: On the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone, former Chief Minister of J&K and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti took to social media platform X to pay homage to the two prominent Kashmiri leaders.
In her post, Mufti acknowledged their significant contributions toward promoting peace and dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir. “Today marks the solemn death anniversary of Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq Sahab and Abdul Gani Lone Sahab — two prominent Kashmiri figures known for their efforts to promote peace and dialogue in the region. Their deaths remain a tragic reminder of the heavy cost of violence in the region and the urgent need for peace and reconciliation,” she wrote.
Mirwaiz Farooq was assassinated on May 21, 1990, while Abdul Gani Lone was killed on the same date in 2002. Both leaders are remembered for advocating dialogue and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
