The case came to light when Chanchal Singh, a truck driver from Haryana, filed a complaint at Police Station Shalteng. He reported that on the night of February 22, unknown individuals stopped his vehicle at Maloora Shalteng, brandished guns, and looted his money and valuables. Acting on the complaint, a case was registered under FIR No. 15 U/S 307, 126(2), 3(5), and an investigation was launched.

Following intense efforts, police teams, using both technical and human intelligence, identified and apprehended four accused individuals from different parts of the city.

The arrested persons have been identified as:

  • Sahil Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mehraj-u-din Sheikh, resident of Narakh Budgam
  • Aqib Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mehraj-ud-din Sheikh, resident of Narakh Budgam
  • Arbaz Ahmad Wani, son of Hilal Ahmad Wani, resident of SD Colony Batmaloo
  • Faisal Ahmad Shah, son of Azad Ahmad Shah, resident of Nowhatta

During the raid, police recovered two dummy guns, nine mobile phones, a Swift vehicle, ATM cards, currency notes, and black uniforms from their possession.

Modus Operandi

The gang primarily targeted trucks with outside UT registration numbers, stopping them at desolate spots along highways during nighttime. They would then threaten drivers using fake guns and rob them of cash, valuables, and ATM cards.

Police confirmed that the arrested individuals are history-sheeters with multiple cases registered against them in different police stations across Jammu and Kashmir.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to eliminating crime from society and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement in maintaining law and order.
