Unable to pay back the money he borrowed from a moneylender to purchase a home, a debit-ridden man from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh was forced to list his young kid for sale. The man is seeking some Rs 5-6 lakh in exchange for his minor son.

Rajkumar, an e-rickshaw driver from Aligarh, was allegedly being harassed by his moneylender after which he had to sit at a roadways bus stand with his son, daughter and wife, Network 18 reported.

The man wore a plaque card around his neck that read “My son is for sale, I want to sell my son.”

According to media reports, Rajkumar borrowed Rs 50,000 from a loan shark to buy a property. However, later the moneylender manipulated him and turned him into a borrower due to which Rajkumar lost both his money and the property.

The victim also claimed that his e-rickshaw, which is his family’s sole source of income was also taken away and the accused threw his family many times out of the house to harass them.

“The moneylender often harassed and humiliated me in front of my kids. He even threw me and my family out of the house. My e-rickshaw, the only means of supporting my family, had been taken away. I’ve been visiting the local police station for days for justice, but no FIR was registered,” TOI quoted Rajkumar as saying.

Rajkmur also claimed that he had already paid Rs 6,000 back to the moneylender and was trying his best to pay the rest, the publication reported.

Taking cognisance of the widely-circulated video of the “protesting” family, police on Saturday arrested the accused and sent him to jail.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that “someone should wake up the government”.

“This is the ‘amrit kaal’ of BJP when a father is forced to sell his son. Before this picture spreads across the world and tarnishes the image of the state and the country in the entire world, someone should wake up the government,” Yadav posted on X in Hindi.
