Baramulla police on Friday said to have arrested three gamblers in Baramulla and seized stake money from their possession.

In a statement issued to Asian News Hub (ANH), a police spokesman said acting on specific information regarding gambling activities at Bandi Balla forests, a police party of Police Station Chandoosa raided the specific spot and arrested three gamblers who tried to flee from the spot.

They have been identified as Maqsood Ahmad Beigh son of Saifullah Beigh resident of Sultanpora, Ab Hameed Ganie son of Ghulam Qadir resident of Rajpora and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh son of Ghulam Hassan resident of Dudbugh Chandoosa.

However, one of the gamblers identified as Ab Majeed Sheikh son of Ab Jabbar Sheikh resident of Dudbugh managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to nab the accused.

Officers have seized stake money of Rs 13,140/- and playing cards from their possession. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chandoosa and investigation has been initiated.

People found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units, the spokesman added.
