Five extortionists arrested in Baramulla: Police

Baramulla Police on Saturday said to have arrested five extortionists for being involved in blackmailing, threatening and extortion in Shalteng Sheeri area of Baramulla district, extortion money recovered.

In a statement to Asian News Hub (ANH), a police spokesman said Sheeri police received a written complaint from one person (name withheld) wherein he stated that on 27 February, 2023 he was on way to his home on reaching Shalteng Sheeri, five persons reportedly drug addicts, assaulted him and fleeced Rs 20,000 from him.

He said after receiving complainant, police registered a case under FIR No. 18/2023 under relevant sections in PS Sheeri and investigation was started.

After strenuous efforts, Baramulla police arrested all five accused persons identified as Nasir Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Amin resident of Shalteng Sheeri, Irshad Ahmad Malla son of Ghulam Din, Umar Akbar Ganie son of Mohd Akbar, Tajamul Bashir Malla son of Bashir Ahmad and Waseem Ahmad Malla son of Manzoor Ahmad Malla all residents of Sheeri Baramulla.

Extortion money of Rs. 20,000 was also recovered from the possession of the accused persons were taken into custody immediately, the spokesman added.
