Domestic violence is not only a social issue but it issue of human rights and health issue and women are main victims, Dr Mantasha binti Rashid said.

Dr Mantasha, a JKAS officer with specialization in gender based violence and conflic, said that Domestic violence is a health issue as well as whenever a person visits a doctor with physical violence, doctor is the first person who understands that person is facing domestic violence.

Not only women face domestic violence but even men also face domestic violence but disproportionately women are victims mainly globally as women aren’t empowered to fight such things, she said.

There are integrated models in health department on basis of which it is being identified with whom, there has been domestic violence and such persons are referred for medical treatment, counselling, legal services and other things, she added.

It is unfortunate that women are still treated as animals and it clearly indicates that women are still being deprived of the position which they deserve as human and women are still considered inferior and sub humans, she added.

Beating a women is being considered a normal thing and when such things are being normalised and internalised, then it becomes very difficult to overcome such things globally, she said.

Different organisations have been working on it but on individual basis, we must try to stop all such cultural practices and norms which leads to violence against women, she added

There is shame, stigma and silence around domestic violence but now such things are being reported as it is era of social media, she said, “we can’t say whether such things are increasing but there is need of proper research to find it out.

Shapes of violence have definitely changed, cyber crimes, abuse at work places, sexual abuse in buses and the more women will come out for work, there will be reaction which results in violence but we have to fight it as a society and system.

Syed Sleet Shah, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crimes, Kashmir Zone said that it is our programme to remain connected with people across people to know about the emergence of cyber crimes in society and what is there in cyber hygiene and cyber security to get rid of these crimes and protect themselves.

Don’t click on any unauthentic click and dont provide any confidential or personal information to any website or scammer who wants data and other things, she said.

Awareness is must and people need to informed how to tackle such situations leading to cyber crimes and police is always available and can approach anytime, she added, “if there will be any cyber crime, then report crime on www.cybercrime.gov.in and can call on toll free number 1903 and can visit cyber crime police station Shergari Srinagar.
