The macadamization usually used to start from mid May but this year, it is yet to start the reasons best know to the authorities.

Not only the local commuters but also the tourists visiting different tourist spots including Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens and Gulmarg are also facing tough time because of bad roads, leaving bad impression on them.

“The roads are in mess. Their dilapidated condition  is creating problems to the commuters. The macadamization should be have been undertaken, some 20-25 days before,” said a commuter, Arif Rashid a resident of Srinagar.

Keeping inview the flow of tourists and the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which is believed to be bigger this year, the efforts should have been made to repair roads at an earliest, he said.

“We went to Dal Lake and Gulmarg, the roads are full of potholes. They cause tremendous inconvenience and sometimes result in mishaps,”said a tourist, Anil Kumar from Rajasthan at Nehru Park.

The condition of roads leading to two main hospitals Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital is no different from other roads.

“The road should have been in a  good condition. It is a busy road, not only used by commuters but by  ambulances as well, coming from different districts. The road needs immediate repairs,” said a commuter Bashir Ahmad at Ali Jan road.

Talking to The Asian News Hub (ANH), Chief Engineer R&B, Rafiq Ahmad said macadamization will be started soon.

“There were some technical issues. We have resolved them. Within couple of days, the macadamization will be undertaken. Many of the city roads are to be macadamized by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC),” he added.
