Srinagar, May 17 (ANH): The dilapidated condition of Ali Jan road, connecting majority of areas with Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has been giving tough time to the patients, who are being referred to the medical facility from different hospitals.

The patients remain stuck in traffic jams for a long time, causing delay in their arrival to the hospital, thus putting their lives at risk.

Around 50-100 ambulances, from Southern as well as northern districts of Kashmir use the particular route to reach SKIMS.

“It is a vital route and its macadamization should have been a priority for the government to ensure better service to the people, especially those, who are using this route to reach the hospital. The authorities are not taking the issue seriously. The road is really in a pathetic condition. It has often remained in news as the authorities have failed to keep it in a good condition,” said a patient, Irfan Ahmad, outside the Out-Patient Department (OPD) block at SKIMS.

A commuter, Parvaiz Ahmad, who uses the route to reach his office at Soura while demanding early macadamization of the road, said that the ongoing drainage work must be completed at an earliest.

“The construction work is obstructing vehicular movement,” he said.

Talking to Asian News Hub (ANH), Chief Engineer of Roads and Building (R&B) department, Rafiq Ahmad said that the macadamization of the road will be started within a week’s time.

“We are waiting for the completion of ongoing drainage work. It was to be completed in March but due to some reasons, its completion got delayed,” he added.(ANH)
