Sringar, Drass coldest in Kashmir, Ladakh

(Asian News Hub) – Kashmir and Ladakh are in the grip of intense cold conditions with Srinagar and Drass recording their coldest nights of the season once more, this time at minus 2.6 and minus 16.9 degrees Celsius, respectively, UNI reported.

Temperature in Srinagar dipped further  in the past 24 hours from minus 2.1 degrees recorded a day ago. This is  two degrees below normal for this time of the year. On December 1, it was minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.

Qazigund, on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, recorded minus 2.4 degrees Celsius against the minus 2.1 on Thursday.

Pahalgam, the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 5.9 degrees against the minus 4.9 the previous night.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 1.4 degrees against minus 1.5 degrees Celsius a night, the official said.

Kupwara frontier township in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius against minus 2.4 degrees the previous night.

The Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir witnessed a minimum of minus 6 degrees Celsius against minus 5.8 degrees on Thursday, officials said.

Leh in Ladakh recorded a minimum of minus 11 degrees Celsius against last night’s minus 10; while Kargil a minimum of 8.6 degrees.

Drass recorded a minimum of minus 16.9 degrees Celsius against the minus 14.5 degrees the previous night, the official added.

A dry spell is forecast till December 14. Light to moderate snow/rain in likely at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir on December 15, the MeT said earlier. No forecast for major snowfall till December 20 in both the UTs.
