Bloody October: J&K witnesses 16 encounters, 48 casualties

20 militants, 12 army men, 12 civilians killed in a month, 3 soldiers commits suicide

(Asian News Hub) – October 2021 turned out to be the bloodiest month of the year as 48 persons have lost their lives in the October month in J&K.

As per the data available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in a month of October, J&K has witnessed 16 encounters resulting in the killings of 20 militants.

The month also recorded death of 15 soldiers and 12 civilians in different incidents in the UT, besides that dead body of one cop was found under mysterious circumstances in Udhampur

Militants killed

One 1 October, a newly recruited militant identified as Mujeeb Lone, resident of Redwani Bala Kulgam was killed in Rakhama Shopian.

On 08 October, one militant namely Aaqib Kumar resident of Trenz Shopian was killed in an encounter in Chanapora Srinagar.

On 09 October, militants managed to escape after a brief exchange of fire in Methan area of Srinagar.

On 11 October, two militants namely Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar from Shahgund and Yawar Ahmad from Kakapora area were killed in Gund Jahangeer Hajin Bandipora and Khangund Verinag encounters respectively.

On 12 October, five militants were killed in two separate encounters in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Three militants identified as Danish Hussian Dar, Yawar Naikoo and Mukhtar Shah were killed in Tulran Shopian while two militants Ubaid Ahmad Dar and Khubaib Ahmad Nengroo were killed in Feripora Shopian.

On 13 October, top Jaish commander Shamsudin Sofi of Satoora Tral was killed in an encounter in Waggad Tral.

On 15 October, a militant namely Shahid Bashir Sheikh of Karfali Mohalla Habba Kadal who had joined militant ranks recently was killed in Washbugh area of Pulwama while Tanzeel Ahmad from Habba Kadal area was killed just after hours after Pulwama encounter in Bemina Srinagar.

On 16 October, two militants namely Umar Mushtaq Khanday of Tulbagh Pampore and Shahid Khurshid of Methan Chanpora were killed in an encounter in the Pampore area of Pulwama district.

On October 20, two militants namely Aadil Ahmad wani from Shirmal Shopian and Shakir Ahmad from Litter were killed in an encounter in Dragad area of Shopian district.

On 20 October, two militants namely Gulzar Ahmad Reshie and Imran wani were killed in an encounter in the Devsar area of Kulgam.

On October 28, a militant named Javid Ahmad wani was killed in an encounter in Cherdari area of Baramulla district.

Soldiers killed

On 11 October, five army personnel were killed in gunfight with militants in Poonch area of Jammu division. The soldiers killed were identified as Naib Subedar Jaswinder Singh, Naik Mandeep Sinigh, Sepoy Gajjan Singh, sepoy Saraj Singh and sepoy Vaisakh H. Operation is still going on in the area.

On 14 October, two soldiers were killed in an encounter in Mendhar area of Srinagar while in the same operation two more soldiers were killed on 16 October.

One Non-local militant who was allegedly involved in Nadimarg massacre was killed in Mendhar encounter after he was taken to the spot.

On 20 October, a soldier Karanveer Singh was killed in an encounter in the Dragad area of Shopian.

On October 30, two army soldiers were killed in an explosion at Kalal forward area on LoC in Rajouri district.

Besides that three soldiers allegedly committed suicide which includes sepoy Stephen at 42 RR camp Rajpora Awantipora, Sepoy Deeraj Kumar at Kralpora Kupwara and Harish Kumar at Tsuntwari Kupwara.

Moreover, one cop, namely Mooj Raj, resident of Kirchi was found dead in his residential quarter under mysterious circumstances in Udhampur on October 18.

Civilian killed

On 02 October, Majid Ahmad Gojri a resident of Chattabal Srinagar was killed in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar while as Mohammad Shafi Dar a resident of Batamallo was killed in his locality.

On 05 October, Dr Bindroo Lal a chemist, Virendar Paswan a non local street vendor and Mohammad Shafi Lone president Sumo drivers association Naidkhai were killed in Iqbal Park area, Lal Bazar and Shah Gund Hajin in Bandipora area respectively.

On 07 October, two teachers namely Deepak Chand and Supindar Kour were killed in Sangam Eidgah area of Srinagar.

On 07 October, a nomad named Parvez Ahmad son of Noor u Din from remote Rajkang, Kashwan, was killed after he allegedly ignored a stop signal by the naka party of 40 battalion at Moonghal area of Anantnag district.

On 16 October, two non local labourers namely Arvind Kumar Shah of Banka Bihar and Sagir Ahmad of Uttar Pradesh (UP) were killed by suspected militants in Eidgah Srinagar and Litter Pulwama respectively.

On October 17, two non local labourers were killed namely Raja Reshi Dev and Joginder Reshi Dev by suspected militants in Wanpoh area of Kulgam district.

On October 24, a civilian named Shahid Ahmad from Nowpora kharpora area of Kulgam district was killed in cross-fire in Babapora area of Zainapora in Shopian district.
