First direct flight from Srinagar will land in Sharjah: Dir Airport

(Asian News Hub) – Srinagar Airport is set to begin international flights, connecting the city directly with the rest of the world from October 23.

Director Airport Srinagar Kuldeep Singh while talking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the first flight from Srinagar airport will take off to Sharjah on Saturday.

He said that on 23rd October the first flight departure to Sharjah is scheduled at 18:20 hours and on Monday, Wednesday and Friday one flight from Srinagar will take off to Sharjah, however, on the rest of the days there will be only domestic flights.

The development is seen as a boon as it is expected to provide relief to hundreds of Kashmiri travelers who are working in the Middle East.

“It will save time and money in travelling to the Middle East,” said relatives of persons working in the Middle East, adding that they first had to reach Delhi and then to Sharjah.

Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir Pandurang K Pole on Monday held a meeting regarding the operation of international flights from Srinagar International Airport. Necessary arrangements needed to put in place and management of passengers in view of the COVID-19 pandemic were discussed in the meeting.

Pole directed officers to execute arrangements meticulously including the management and regulation of passengers, segregation of domestic and international passengers, conduct rapid PCR at Airport for international passengers besides mandatory RTPCR test before 48 hours
