(Asian News Hub) – A Jaipur family court has granted divorce to IAS couple Tina Dabi and her husband Athar Amir Khan.

Family court No. 1 in Jaipur granted the divorce under Section 28 of the Special Marriage Act after deciding on their petition filed in November last year on mutual consent.

The 2016-batch IAS toppers got married in Jaipur on March 20, 2018, soon after their romance and love story made national headlines.

The duo had earlier said that they had fallen in love during their training period.

Their story became a hot topic of discussion from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir with the Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha terming it “love-jihad”.

It had also written a letter to Tina’s parents saying that while they were proud of her achievements, it was “painful” that she decided to tie the knot with a Muslim.

The right-wing organisation had also asked Dabi’s parents to cancel the wedding or at least convince Khan to get converted.

The letter published on Hindu Mahasabha’s official website, further said that foreign elements and Muslim extremists are working to promote “love jihad” in the country and effort is being made to Islamise the whole country.

Khan, who hails from Kashmir, had secured the second position in the UPSC civil services examination held in 2015, while Tina Dabi topped it by securing the first position.

The report about the rift in their marriage surfaced last year after she removed ‘Khan’ from her surname on social media. Later, Khan also unfollowed her on social media platforms.

Khan is currently on deputation in Kashmir.
