Police say circumstances that led to this incident being looked into

(Asian News Hub) – A journalist was allegedly beaten by the Jammu and Kashmir police cops on National highway at Sangam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday evening.

Reports said that Akash Hassan, a freelance journalist, was beaten up by police at Sangam when he was in way to his home

I was beaten by a sub-inspector rank officer and his PSO on the National highway at Sangam without any provocation, Aakash tweeted.

Talking to News Agency – KNO Aakash said that on way to home from Srinagar to Fatehpur in Anantnag and got stuck in a traffic jam, however, after spending over half-an-hour there, he was simply following the vehicle which was before him.

“Suddenly a sub-inspector rank officer and his PSO started beating me and after I told them that I am a journalist, but they didn’t stop and I got hit on my nose and hand,” he said, adding that he was on way to hospital.

Meanwhile officials at police post Sangam denied the allegations and said that he was just asked to remain in single lane.

However, police said that they have taken cognizance of the issue and circumstances that led to this were being looked into.

“Cognisance taken. Circumstances that led to this being looked into. During rush evening hours a loaded truck got stuck due to mechanical fault on Sangam bridge leading to heavy traffic jamming. Been working hard to clear it. Request all to cooperate with police & avoid confrontation,” Anantnag police Tweeted.
