Srinagar, Jan 15: The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir has expressed grave concern over attempts to disrupt communal harmony through sectarian tensions, condemning recent derogatory remarks against the revered companions of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Simultaneously, the Cyber Police Kashmir has issued an advisory urging responsible online behavior to curb the spread of divisive content.
In a statement to Asian News Hub, the MMU described the remarks as deeply hurtful and unacceptable, emphasizing that the companions hold an exalted status in Islam. The religious body called for unity and mutual respect among all sects, urging scholars to guide their followers toward preserving communal harmony. The MMU also appealed to authorities to take swift legal action against those spreading hatred to prevent further disruption of peace.
Meanwhile, Srinagar police on social media platform X said that they have taken cognizance of the derogatory remarks, with individuals involved being questioned. They assured appropriate legal action to address the matter. The police also noted a pattern of sectarian slander on social media in recent months and warned that sharing or amplifying such content would result in strict legal repercussions.
Cyber Police Kashmir reiterated this stance, issuing an advisory to all social media users to maintain online decorum and avoid promoting sectarian hatred. “Cyber Police is actively monitoring social media for malicious content. Strict legal action will be taken against violators under the relevant provisions of the law,” said Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime Kashmir.
The SP also appealed to the public to act responsibly while engaging online, emphasizing the collective duty to maintain peace and unity. Citizens are encouraged to report objectionable content through official channels.
