Srinagar, Dec 10: Continuing its drive against drug peddlers and its propagators, jammu and kashmir police have booked three notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Awantipora and Handwara after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.
In a media statement, a police spokesman said two notorious drug peddlers namely Yawar Yousuf Sofi son of Mohd Yousuf Sofi resident of Kadlabal Pampore and Feroze Ahmad Chopan son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Larow Jagir Tral have been booked under PIT NDPS Act in Awantipora after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority & subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.
He said many cases are registered against these drug peddlers and they were involved in promoting drug trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Pampore, Tral and other areas of Police District.

Similarly in Handwara, the detained drug peddler namely Manzoor Ahmad Shah son of Saif-Ud-Deen Shah resident of Gund Moomin is a key member of a drug trafficking syndicate actively involved in destroying the lives of youth by pushing them towards substance abuse. His involvement in multiple criminal cases including case FIR Nos 266/2020 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act of PS Kupwara and 15/2024 under Sections 8/20, 29 NDPS Act PS Vilgam which highlights his persistent engagement in illicit activities, he said.
He added that despite these actions, the individual continued his illegal activities, prompting the initiation of detention proceedings under PIT NDPS Act. Today, a detention warrant under Section 3 of the PIT NDPS Act was received and executed, and the individual has been brought to the police station for further action.
Consistent actions of Police against the criminals should reassure the community members that police are making all efforts to eradicate social evils and making all efforts to keep our society free from drug abuse, the spokesman added.
