Srinagar, May 18: A former sarpanch was shot dead by terrorists in Herpora area of Shopian district on Saturday day, police said. This is the second terror attack in south Kashmir within an hour.

Quoting an official news agency—Kashmir News Observer reported that Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, a former sarpanch, was fired upon by terrorists Herpora area this evening.

They said that soon after the attack he was shifted to a nearby healthcare facility, where he succumbed to injuries.

Hospital authorities confirmed that Sheikh was brought dead to hospital.

Police and security forces have cordoned off the area to nab the attackers. Earlier, terrorists fired upon and injured a couple from Rajasthan’s Jaipur in Anantnag district.
