Professor at SKAUST Wadoora sentenced to one year in prison, fined 15,000 rupees for sexual harassment

Sopore, Jan 24 : A local court in north Kashmir’s Sopore has found a professor guilty in the SKAUST Wadoora sexual harassment case and ordered one year of imprisonment and a fine of 15,000 rupees.

According to a court order, the Prosecution CJM Court in Sopore successfully secured a conviction and imposed a one-year jail term and a fine of 15,000 rupees on the accused.

The accused held the position of HOD Extension in SKUAST Wadoora.

Pertinent to mention here that the trial of this case was concluded within a period of nine months.

The undersigned was legally assisted by the probationary Prosecuting Officer, Sadaf Amin (APP DMM Court Sopore), in this case.

Around nine months ago, a female student of SKUAST Wadoora Sopore campus alleged that she was sexually harassed by a professor on campus. In response, students of the university staged a massive protest demonstration, demanding stern action against the guilty party.

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology of Kashmir took the matter seriously, as did DC Baramulla Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, and finally, after nine months, justice has been served for the female student and her family.
