Kulgam, Jan 04: Militants, who were trapped in an encounter with security forces last evening in Hadigam village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, may have escaped, official sources said on Thursday.

Sources told that following an input about the presence of militants in Hadigam village a cordon-and-search operation was launched.

They said there was brief exchange of gunfire between militants and security forces and due to darkness the operation was suspended for night.

“The security forces resumed search operations in the area and expanded the cordon today morning, but there was no fresh contact established with the hiding militants,” they said.

Sources said that the militants may have taken the advantage of darkness and managed to escape from the spot.
