A.E RDD arrested for accepting bribe of Rs 2000 in Budgam

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday trapped and arrested Assistant Engineer, Rural Development Department (RDD), Surasyar, Chadoora in Budgam for demanding and accepting Rs 2000 for releasing the payment.

As per a statement, ACB received a written complaint against Tanveer Ahmad Dar, Assistant Engineer, Rural Development Department, BDO Office, Surasyar, Chadoora, District Budgam for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs 2000 for release of due payment in favour of the complainant.

“The complainant alleged that he is a contractor of the Rural Development Department and had completed allotted Works and the above named Assistant Engineer is demanding 2% of the total cost of the bills. The complainant alleged that the two bills amounting to the tune of Rs 90000 each were to be passed by alleged AE,” he said.

However, the public servant remained adamant on his demand of bribe and finally agreed on Rs 2000 as bribe release the payment, the statement said.

The complainant arranged Rs 2000 and approached ACB for legal action, it said, adding that on receipt of the complaint, a case under FIR number 25/2023 under section 7 PC Act 1988 was registered in PS ACB Srinagar and investigation taken up.

“During the course of investigation a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught red-handed Tanveer Ahmad Dar S/o Ghulam Mohammad R/o Badipora, Chadoora District Budgam posted as Assistant Engineer in BDO Office Surasyar while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 2000,” the statement reads.

The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused Tanveer Ahmad Dar on spot. The alleged accused was arrested and taken into legal custody. 5. Further Investigation of the case is going on, the statement added.
