Encourage people against usage of crude electric devices: Div Com Kashmir to DCs

The usage of crude electric devices by unscrupulous  people is  causing huge loss of electricity which also leads to interruption in regular power supply, remarked Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, in a meeting at Srinagar.

He enjoined upon Deputy Commissioners to sensitise people about disadvantages of usage of crude electronic appliances.

He said that appropriate action should be taken against misuse of electricity, hooking and power theft.

He maintained that to protect transformers from damage and costly gadgets at the receiving stations, a campaign must be started to educate general public about heavy cost of unethical power consumption.

Meanwhile, he appealed people to cooperate with the administration in ensuring regular power supply as per the published scheduled.

Div Com also reviewed completion of various projects under different schemes, plans and projects in all districts and impressed upon DCs to achieve given targets for this financial year.

Besides, he instructed DCs to expedite the works at Tourist Spots to keep these places functional during the winters as huge number of visitors flock to these  destinations.

Also, Div Com emphasized upon DCs to focus on deliverables and quality disposal of grievances in their respective districts.

Further, he directed DCs to make strenuous efforts to increase the number of drug free panchayats. He instructed them to  engage Numberdars and Chowkidars in programmes, activities and Nasha Mukhat Bharat campaigns.

NIT Srinagar declares winter vacation amid ongoing semester exams

National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal Srinagar, has instructed all students to vacate hostels with immediate effect.

The instructions, the authorities said, are being made in pursuance of the declaration of winter vacations.

“Pursuant to the declaration of Winter Vacation for students w.e.f 30.11.2023 vide Order No. 60 of 2023 issued under endorsement number NITS/R/23/600 dated 30.11.2023 all hostel boarders (Boys and Girls) are instructed to vacate the hostels with immediate effect”, reads a circular.

Handwara vegetable market gutted in fire incident

The Vegetable market (Sabzi Mandi) in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was Thursday gutted in a massive blaze, officials said.

An official said that the fire broke out in the wee hours today, left about 10 vegetable carts gutted in the incident, adding that vegetables worth huge amount got damaged in the incident.

Gulmarg among several areas receive fresh snowfall, rains lash plains

The famous tourist destinations including Gulmarg and Doodhpathri experienced fresh snowfall on Thursday while rains lashed plains, bringing the mercury down.

Reports said that several areas of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, which include Gulmarg and Doodhpatri as well.

The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places and light snowfall over middle and higher reaches today.

Meanwhile, the night temperature improved across Kashmir with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recording a minimum temperature of 5.3 degree Celsius.

The mercury in Qazigund settled at 5.0 degree Celsius while in Pahalgam it settled at 1.5 degree Celsius.

According to data, Konibal and Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0 degree Celsius each.
