‘Magga Chacha’ close aide of Mirwaiz passes away

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday expressed extreme sadness and grief at the passing away of Mohammad Maqbool shah, close personal associate of the Mirwaiz and late Shaheed-e-Millat and the family, for the last more than 65 years.

Famously known as “Magga Chacha” in political, social and journalistic circles, where he was well known through his association with the Mirwaiz, his death is being widely mourned.

Mirwaiz in a statement cited by news agency KNO, said that his death has deeply grieved him and his family whom he most sincerely and devotedly served for the last six decades.

Mirwaiz said that late Mohd Maqbool was a ‘one man army’- agile and dependable, always ready to do any task assigned to him, which he accomplished come what may.

“A resolute and spirited man his devotion was unparalleled. He will be greatly missed. Appointed way back in 1960’s as an Assistant to President Anjumam e Nusratul Islam and Anjuman Auqaf e Jamia Masjid late Mohd Maqbool worked dedicatedly first with shaheed e Millat, and after his shahadat with Mirwaiz Umar till his death,” the statement said.

Als, as an important member of the press and media wing of JK Awami Action Committee, he would carry press statements and other related materials to press and media, a job he was most deft at, and ensure it got printed and broadcast, despite facing all odds.

But most unfortunately, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was not allowed to participate in the funeral prayers of this dear old associate and pay him his last respects as he continues to be under house detention, it said.

However, hundreds of people including members of Mirwaiz family, leaders and activists of AAC and members of Anjuman nusratul islam and Anjuman Auqaf Jamia masjid participated in his Nimaze Janaza and bid him a tearful farewell.

Handwara vegetable market gutted in fire incident

The Vegetable market (Sabzi Mandi) in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was Thursday gutted in a massive blaze, officials said.

An official said that the fire broke out in the wee hours today, left about 10 vegetable carts gutted in the incident, adding that vegetables worth huge amount got damaged in the incident.

The official said that Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot and doused the flames with the help of Police.

Gulmarg among several areas receive fresh snowfall, rains lash plains

The famous tourist destinations including Gulmarg and Doodhpathri experienced fresh snowfall on Thursday while rains lashed plains, bringing the mercury down.

Reports said that several areas of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, which include Gulmarg and Doodhpatri as well.

The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places and light snowfall over middle and higher reaches today.

Meanwhile, the night temperature improved across Kashmir with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recording a minimum temperature of 5.3 degree Celsius.

The mercury in Qazigund settled at 5.0 degree Celsius while in Pahalgam it settled at 1.5 degree Celsius.

According to data, Konibal and Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0 degree Celsius each.

NIT Srinagar and Islamia College suspend all academic activities for today

National Institute of Technology Dargah Hazratbal and Islamia College of Science and Commerce Hawal, Srinagar have suspended all academic activities for the day.

According to a communique issued by Principal, Islamia College, “The classwork of all the semesters and internal examinations, including T-series shall remain off today (30-11-2023) and will be rescheduled w.e.f tomorrow 01-12-2023.”

However, backlog examinations of 3rd semester shall be conducted as per schedule, reads the communique.

Soon after the announcement of Islamia College, the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar also announced the suspension of classwork for today.

According to a communique issued by Prof. Atikur Rehman, Incharge Registrar, NIT Srinagar, “This is to inform you that the Institute will observe a holiday on Thursday, November 30, 2023.”

All academic activities, including classes, examinations, and administrative work, shall remain suspended on 30/11/2023,” reads the communique.
