In continuation of the drive initiated by the J&K Waqf Board under the instructions of Chairperson Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, 10 number of Waqf Shops/Rooms were sealed in Khanqah-e-Maula area of Srinagar today early morning, according to statement issued to Asian News Hub.

It said, that the Property users had large outstanding of arrears & had failed to pay revised rent, as per reports. It has been learnt that the Waqf property Users from across the UT had approached the Hon’ble High Court against revision of rent implemented by Waqf authorities last year. However, in a recent decision, the Hon’ble Court has directed the Users to pay immediately the pending & revised rentals to avoid eviction by Waqf authorities.
Pertinently, Dr Andrabi had personally visited Maisuma Complex in Srinagar last week for on the ground review of payment of rentals and arrears by Waqf Property Users. A large number of users were found to have large outstanding of rentals. The Waqf Chairperson had warned the users to pay pending rentals to avoid any legal action.
It has been learnt now Dr Andrabi has issued strict instructions to the Officers within Waqf & directed them to go tough against property Users who have failed to pay even paltry monthly rentals for years & are still showing reluctance to pay revised rent.
