Cancels RC of another vehicle for one year, imposes penalty of Rs 5k against possessor of vehicle

The Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari on Wednesday suspended the Registration Certificate (RC) of one more vehicle and also ordered cancellation of another RC for the period of one year with immediate effect in a case related to the harassing and attacking a family last month by a group of youth in Srinagar outskirts.
As per the documents available with the Asian News Hub (ANH), a penalty of Rs 5000 has been imposed upon one of the owners, identified as Mehraj Din Ganaie.
In exercise of powers under section 53 of MVA, 1988, the registration certificate of vehicle No: JK01AS-1158 is, hereby, suspended with immediate effect, with the direction to surrender the original Registration certificate in this office, reads one of the orders, a copy of which lies with ANH.
A separate order issued by RTO, reads that in exercise of powers under section 54 of MVA, 1988, the registration certificate of vehicle No: JK01AR-1634 is, hereby, cancelled for a period of one year with immediate effect, with the direction to surrender the original Registration certificate in this office.
Moreover, the RTO in a separate order has said that in exercise of powers under section 180 of MVA, 1988, a penalty of Rs 5000 is imposed upon Mehraj Din Ganaie, present owner and possessor of the vehicle used in offence, for causing and permitting his vehicle to be driven by a person who did not possess a valid driving license.
The action has been taken in a case that pertains to the harassment against a family, a video of which went viral on social media as well. All the accused involved in the act were arrested by Srinagar Police on March 27.
Pertinently, the Registration Certificates of two vehicles were suspended by RTO, Kashmir on April 20 while owners were penalized as well.
