The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) on Wednesday said that the electricity in few areas has been snatched after the residents halt the process of smart meters installation.

According to Asian News Hub (ANH), Chief Engineer, KPDCL, Javed Yusuf Dar said that at least 80,000 smart meters have been installed so far while under PMDP 2.5 lakh more smart meters are to be installed.
He further said that 6.85 lakh smart meters will be installed under the recently launched RDSS scheme in the next 2 years, he said, adding that 100 per cent completion of smart meter project installation will be complete in the next two and a half years.
He added that the smart meter installation was done in a peaceful manner in many areas, but some areas witnessed protests as well. “Unfortunately, we had to disconnect electricity in few areas where protest was witnessed and the process of smart meter installation was halted,” he said.
