Contractor from Bandipora killed in hit-and-run accident

A prominent contractor from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Greater Kalash area of Jammu on Monday, officials said.

Quoting officials news agency—KNO reported that a contractor identified as Mohammad Akram Bhat of Vijhara Lowdara village of Bandipora was killed on spot after being hit by a speedy four wheeler in Greater Kalash area.

They, however, said that soon after the incident, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot along with the vehicle.

“After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body has been handed over to the family and is on way to Bandipora from Jammu,” they said.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer said that they have identified the vehicle (Hyundai-i20) involved in the hit and run case.

“We have booked the driver under Indian Penal Code sections pertaining to rash driving and causing death due to negligence and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act,” he said, adding that police have launched a search to nab the driver.
