Langate, Nov 05: The locals of Langate area of north Kashmir are aghast against the Municipal Chairman Shehnawaz Abdullah for excavating soil from school premises and transporting to some ‘unknown place’ without following the due procedure, news agency KDC reported.

As per KDC report, the locals are alleging that MC Chairman Langate allowed the earth cutting in the premises of Govt. Middle School Langate in Kupwara a few days ago, however, the cutting was done without seeking NOC’s from eight departments: Revenue, I&FC, PHE, PDD, Agriculture, Horticulture, Soil conservation, Forest, and most importantly Geology and Mining department.

It Is pertinent to mention that the school authorities have been kept at bay by the MC Chairman as the Head Master of the school was neither contacted nor informed about the soil excavation.

The locals according to news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) further alleged that in the absence of school authorities, the MC Chairman stole the soil in a deliberately chosen off- day to make his earning and livelihood out of harming the environment.
The locals are questioning that MC Chairman doesn’t have the authority to issues GR’s in such matters and but only Geology and mining or school department have.

Meanwhile, the soil excavation has led to the possibility of fall of passer-by school building. An inquiry had been initiated and they will submit their report within two days.

The locals are demanding that an FIR be lodged against him for risking the school building, embezzlement of funds, risking the lives of students, misuse of power, and harming the fragile environment of Langate.

Meanwhile, when contacted the eight departments about the illegal soil excavation by MC Chairman Langate, it came to fore that no department has issued any sort of NOC to MC Langate for soil excavation. (KDC)
