5-member delegation of Islamic Organisations call on LG Sinha

Discuss arrest of religious clerics, problems faced by fruit growers; LG Sinha gave positive response, hopefully arrested clerics will be released soon: Gh Rasool Hami

Srinagar, Sept 19: A 5-member delegation from Islamic Organisations of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday called upon Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to discuss several issues including arrest of several religious clerics and problems faced by fruit growers.

Talking to reporters after meeting LG Sinha, one of the delegation members, Bashir Ahmad, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that they discussed several issues with the LG, which included the arrest of several religious clerics over the past few days in the Kashmir Valley and problems faced by the fruit growers.

He said that they brought these issues into the notice of LG Sinha, who gave a patient hearing to them and assured all possible help.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters, Ghulam Rasool Hami said that they raised several issues particularly the arrest of religious clerics with the LG and he gave them a positive response.

“We received a positive response from LG Sinha and hopefully religious clerics arrested on various grounds will be released soon. We also raised the issue of fruit growers, who are facing problems in transportation of their produce. The LG gave a positive response and said that the government will take measures in this regard,” he said.

As per a statement issued to KNO, a delegation of United Ullmah-i-Ahlli Sunnah called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan here.

The delegation was comprised of renowned Islamic Scholars, Moulana Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Naqeeb, Moulana Ghulam Rasool Haami, Moulana Showkat Hussain Keng and Prof Bashir Ahmad Dar.

The members of the delegation discussed promotion of Reshi-Sufi culture and tradition of Jammu Kashmir.

They further put forth the demands of the constitution of the Madrassa Board for effective dissemination of Sufi teachings, establishment of Sheikh-ul-Aalam Research University and promotion of cultural values in schools, colleges and universities.

The delegation also discussed the issues of fruit growers regarding transportation of fresh fruits to other parts of the country. The Lt Governor issued on spot directions to the concerned for hassle-free transportation of fresh fruits of Jammu Kashmir across the country.

The Lt Governor assured the members of the delegation all assistance from the UT administration for promotion of ancient Sufi teachings and values.

Notably, over the past few days several religious clerics were arrested in the Kashmir Valley, while few of them have been booked under Public Safety Act.

Man dies as tractor turns turtle in Sopore

A man lost his life on Sunday morning as tractor turned turtle in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramula district.

Quoting an official news agency KS reported that a man was critically injured on Sunday morning after a tractor in which he was travelling turned turtle at Badambagh.

He said soon after the incident, he was immediately taken to Sub District Hospital Sopore, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A police officer confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Farooz Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hamid Bhat resident of Badambagh.

Srinagar police on Saturday said to have arrested a Srinagar Municpal Corporation (SMC) Corporator for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking.

They said strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the brave victim, the accused has been identified as Aqib Ahmed Renzu resident of Nishat Srinagar.

Case under FIR No 50/2023 U/S 354, 354A, 354D registered in RM Bagh Police station.

Srinagar police on X informed, “One SMC corporator Aqib Ahmed Renzu of Nishat Srinagar arrested for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking. Strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the brave victim. FIR No 50/2023 U/S 354, 354A, 354D registered in RM Bagh Police station.”

Man slips to death while collecting firewood in central Kashmir

A man died after he slipped while collecting firewood in Rezan forest area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.

An official told that Showkat Ahmad Tekri, son of Gh Hassan Tekri of Gujerbasti Rezan slipped and fell down from the upper reaches of the forest area, which resulted in his on spot death.

The heavy rainfall had triggered slippery conditions in the area.

He said that soon after the incident, police reached the spot and recovered his body.

“After medico-legal formalities, his body will be handed over to her family members for the last rites,” he said. KNO
