Police solves Hit and Run case in Budgam; 04 arrested

Srinagar, Jul 17: Police in Budgam have solved a hit and run case by arresting the accused driver alongwith three conspirators and also seized vehicle used in the commission of crime.

In a statement issued here, a police spokesman said that on 15/07/2022, Police Station Khansahib received information that a motorcycle bearing registration No. PB09M-2124 driven by Mohammad Ismail Lone son of Irshad Ahmed Lone alongwith 02 pillion riders namely Mohammad Yousuf Lone son of Manzoor Ahmed Lone, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone son of Ghulam Qadir Lone, all residents of Sitharan Khag were hit by an unknown vehicle near Jamia Masjid Arizal and the driver alongwith the vehicle has fled away from the spot.

Meanwhile, the injured persons were shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar for further treatment. However, 02 injured Mohammad Yousuf and Mohammad Ismail succumbed to their injuries at SMHS Hospital Srinagar. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 119/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Khansahib and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, the investigation team put forth all the efforts to identify and arrest the driver involved in the commission of the crime and summoned various suspects for questioning. After strenuous efforts, the Police team recovered the suspected vehicle bearing registration number JK04A-0678 from the agriculture field in village Arizal. It is pertinent to mention that, earlier at the time of incident, President Sumo Stand Arizal namely Fayaz Ahmad War and brother of vehicle owner namely Mehraj Ahmad Khan produced one Irshad Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Rashid Khan resident of Checkmarg  Hardpanzoo before PS Khan Sahib by claiming him to be the driver of the vehicle. However, during questioning, it came to fore that one Shakeel Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Rashid Khan resident of Checkmarg Hardpanzoo (who doesn’t possess a driving licence) was driving the vehicle at the time of incident.

The actual driver happens to be the brother of the impersonating driver produced by President Sumo Stand and brother of owner of the involved vehicle. The trio had hatched a conspiracy to save the actual driver from legal action owing to his non possession of driving licence.

The driver of the vehicle, two cheaters and impersonating driver were booked and arrested in the instant hit and run case under sections 304-A, 229, 337, 205, 417, 177-IPC and 3/181, 190(2), 146, 196 MV Act.

Teenage boy dies in Anantnag road accident

A teenage boy died in a road accident in Sangam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday evening.

Reports said that a teenage boy identified as Kausar Ahmad Bhat resident of Sangam was critically injured after he was hit by unknown vehicle in Chadsoo Sangam.

They said he was rushed to GMC Anantnag for treatment, where he was referred to SMHS hospital for specialised treatment. However, he was declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.

Online classes in all Degree Colleges of Kashmir region from Dec-01

With the early onset of winters, Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department Thursday ordered that it will conduct online classes in all government degree colleges of Kashmir region from Dec-01-2023.

Special Secretary to the government Dr Ravi Shanker Sharma in a communique said, “Due to early onset of winter, students enrolled in Government Degree Colleges of Kashmir Division are facing major challenge in commuting to college and, thereby, attending classes.”

“Situation has got compounded due to disruption to normal class work with inadequate heating arrangements,” it reads.

The communique further states that with the implementation of admission based on merit and choice, students have to travel distances or stay in Hostel or stay in private accommodations which has put them to severe hardship due to early onset of harsh winter.

Ir reads, “In order to ensure unhindered academic delivery in adverse and extreme cold conditions, it is impressed upon all the Principals of Government Degree Colleges of Kashmir Division that classes will be conducted via online mode w.e.f. December-01-2023 till December-31-2023 or till winter vacations are announced, whichever is earlier.”

“Further, Principals of Govt. Degree Colleges of Kashmir Division are directed to ensure that the faculty will attend their respective colleges regularly and take their classes online from the colleges in order to complete the syllabus as per academic calendar,” the official said.

It also said that all internal examinations and semester-end examinations will be conducted as per notified schedule of universities or institutions.
