3 minors among 4 die, 15 injured in Samba road accident

Jammu, Jul 23: Three minors among four people lost their lives, while 15 others were injured in a road accident that took place near bus stand Samba on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that an auto and a truck had a head-on collision near Samba bus stand, resulting in injuries to several people.

He said that all the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where four of them succumbed to injuries, while 15 others were undergoing treatment.

The official identified the deceased as Suman Kumari (40), Muskan (6), Rahul (8) and Krish (6)—all resident of Samba.

The injured have been identified as Geeta Devi (70), Minakashi Devi (12), Veena Devi (40), Usha Devi (42), Rekha Devi (35), Neha Devi (26), Geeta Devi (34), Ritika (7), Jyoti Devi (30), Garo Devi (48), Jyoti Devi (70), Champa Devi (58), Arshi Devi (15), Neha Devi and Shani Devi (40)—all residents of Samba.

NIT Srinagar declares winter vacation amid ongoing semester exams

National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal Srinagar, has instructed all students to vacate hostels with immediate effect.

The instructions, the authorities said, are being made in pursuance of the declaration of winter vacations.

Handwara vegetable market gutted in fire incident

The Vegetable market (Sabzi Mandi) in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was Thursday gutted in a massive blaze, officials said.

An official said that the fire broke out in the wee hours today, left about 10 vegetable carts gutted in the incident, adding that vegetables worth huge amount got damaged in the incident.

Gulmarg among several areas receive fresh snowfall, rains lash plains

The famous tourist destinations including Gulmarg and Doodhpathri experienced fresh snowfall on Thursday while rains lashed plains, bringing the mercury down.

Reports said that several areas of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, which include Gulmarg and Doodhpatri as well.

The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places and light snowfall over middle and higher reaches today.

Meanwhile, the night temperature improved across Kashmir with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recording a minimum temperature of 5.3 degree Celsius.

The mercury in Qazigund settled at 5.0 degree Celsius while in Pahalgam it settled at 1.5 degree Celsius.

According to data, Konibal and Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0 degree Celsius each.
