Govt window-dressing its failures on job creation, bridging development gap in JK: Sagar

Published

(Asian News Hub) – The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday said that J&K government is window-dressing its failures on creation of employment opportunities and bridging development deficit in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pointing out to the extensive puff-jobs and window dressing done to hide its failure by the incumbent government to hide its ineptitude, Sagar said people are suffering on different accounts ranging from inflation, development deficit, to rising unemployment and administrative inertia. He said this while addressing the delegation of Party’s Parent body, YNC, Women’s wing functionaries and other block and Halqa level functionaries who had called on him here at party head quarters Nawa- e-Subha from Sopore, Kangan, Hazratbal and Kulgam.

While interacting with the party functionaries, Sagar said, “The absence of democracy and long spell of bureaucratic rule has obstructed the development prospectus in the entire region. The bureaucrats are not subjected to any kind of accountability. The airdropped coterie of officials at the helm in J&K seems to care little about the issues concerning the people,” he said.

He stated that the unrelated bureaucracy look without seeing, listen without hearing and proclaim decisions, changing people’s lives without taking cognizance of the wishes and aspirations of the people. “The failure to give impetus to the infra-projects, ineptitude to cope up with the aftermaths of the rampaging two successive lock downs post August 5 2019 has badly exposed the failures of those managing J&K. We only saw officials change their stripes and do photo-ops. The over centralization of the center in Jammu and Kashmir is “pushing one size for all” kind of measures with little consideration people’s aspirations,” he said.

Remarking on the repressive, lopsided and heavy taxation being levied on people, Sagar said, “The insensitiveness of the government can be ascertained by the way people are being overburdened with taxes ranging from toll taxes, property taxes, to houses taxes. The new taxation regime is hurting our marginalized farmers, salaried class and other weaker sections of the society; when it comes to giving the money back to people the government turns blank. Work on all the major road, sewage, drainage, health and education projects has been put into a cold storage. The plight of agriculture and its allied sectors is equally depressing,” he said.

Sagar , while urging the workers to increase their public contact  said that  people were the real source of power and party members should live up to their obligations by serving the people in their respective areas. He impressed upon the visiting delegations to increase their public contact, saying that there was no scope for contentment. “The road ahead of us is very challenging. We are not fighting for power. Our aim is to restore the dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The route we have chosen to achieve our rights is peaceful, democratic and constitutional,” he said.

He asked the district functionaries to prioritize giving party membership to youth and women. He also urged the functionaries to take party programme to every door step.

“I welcome the step taken by the administration in J&K to release Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from house arrest. I hope that they allow him to move freely, interact with people & resume his social/religious responsibilities. Today eyes in Kashmir will be on Mirwaiz as he delivers his first Friday sermon in Jamia Masjid after 2019,” Omar wrote on X.

“Finally Mirwaiz Umer Farooq will walk free after years of LGs admin’s denial about his detention. As a religious head he is held in high regard by muslims across J&K. Unfortunate that a tussle has already begun between BJPs various political outfits to claim credit for his release,” Mehbooba Mufti wrote on X.

Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman and former minister, Sajad Gani Lone welcomed Mirwaiz’s release and stated that he symbolises a tradition, which is primarily religious in nature but also has strong societal connotations.

“Welcome the release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq sahib. It is a joyous day for all of us to hopefully see him leading the prayers. He symbolises a tradition which is primarily religious in nature but also strong societal connotations. This tradition has been routinely interrupted in the last three decades, by all governments. Hope this tradition proposers uninterrupted,” Sajad Lone wrote on X.

It should not be used as an excuse to curtail the fundamental rights of people. Hope the government respects different shades of opinions, including the media,” Tarigami wrote on X.

Waqf Board Chairperson and BJP leader, Dr Darakshan Andrabi termed the release of Mirwaiz as an appreciable decision by the administration.

Religious scholars belong to all & no group or political party has a copyright for any religious personality, she said.
