Month on, no electricity in Ganderbal village; locals demand 250 KVA transformer in the area

Ganderbal Jan 28: The residents of Hari Ganiwan area of Ganderbal’s Kangan tehsil are using primitive sources to light their houses since last 20 days as their 100-KVA transformer is unable to bear the load of 142 connections.

The local residents said that the transformer of the area has got damaged nearly a month before, adding that it often gets damaged due to the excessive household connection on it.

The residents demanded for a additional transformer saying that a 100-KVA transformer is placed for around 142 connection due to which it quite often gets damaged.

“We have a 100 KVA transformer in our area on which five colonies, Chopan Mohalla, Bhat Mohalla, Khatana Mohalla, Bagh Pati consisting of 142 registered connections rely and the transformer gets damaged quite often due to the excessive load,” said Mushtaq Ahmad a local resident and district co-ordinater Panchayat Conference Ganderbal.

He further demanded a 250-KVA additional transformer for the area so that the problem gets solved, “Goverment must provide us a 250 KVA additional transformer so that the issue gets solved as we are facing too many dificulties in this harsh winter due to unavailability of electricity,” he told.

“We approached many concerned officials but all went in vain,” he added.

The local residents also requested the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Engineer of PDD to look into the matter. (PTK)

Man dies as tractor turns turtle in Sopore

A man lost his life on Sunday morning as tractor turned turtle in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramula district.

Quoting an official news agency KS reported that a man was critically injured on Sunday morning after a tractor in which he was travelling turned turtle at Badambagh.

He said soon after the incident, he was immediately taken to Sub District Hospital Sopore, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A police officer confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Farooz Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hamid Bhat resident of Badambagh.

Srinagar police on Saturday said to have arrested a Srinagar Municpal Corporation (SMC) Corporator for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking.

They said strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the brave victim, the accused has been identified as Aqib Ahmed Renzu resident of Nishat Srinagar.

Srinagar police on X informed, “One SMC corporator Aqib Ahmed Renzu of Nishat Srinagar arrested for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking. Strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the brave victim. FIR No 50/2023 U/S 354, 354A, 354D registered in RM Bagh Police station.”

Man slips to death while collecting firewood in central Kashmir

A man died after he slipped while collecting firewood in Rezan forest area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.

An official told that Showkat Ahmad Tekri, son of Gh Hassan Tekri of Gujerbasti Rezan slipped and fell down from the upper reaches of the forest area, which resulted in his on spot death.

The heavy rainfall had triggered slippery conditions in the area.

He said that soon after the incident, police reached the spot and recovered his body.

“After medico-legal formalities, his body will be handed over to her family members for the last rites,” he said. KNO
