Srinagar, Jan 19: Scores of representatives of Jammu and Kashmir Public Sector Employees and Workers Federation Tuesday held a protest demonstration at Press Enclave Srinagar, stating that they are without salaries for the last several months.

They alleged that they are on the verge of starvation as their salaries are pending for the last several months and they do not have any resources to feed their families.

According to the news agency—KNO, federation president, Wajahat Hussain said that the representatives of all the PSUs, which are functional here, have assembled for a symbolic protest.

He said that when article 370 was abrogated, PM Modi announced on national television that all demands of employees will be fulfilled, however, they are still without salaries from the last several months, thereby forcing them to come out on roads.

He said that employees of SFC are without salaries from the last 6 months, employees of JKSRTC are without salaries from the last 4 months, employees of JK Cements, Handloom Development Corporation, arts emporium and JKTDC are without salaries from the last 22 months, 5 months, 8 months and 2 months respectively.

“Government had made big promises but despite that, we are without salaries and are on the verge of starvation. These PSUs have been working as frontline warriors during the COVID-19, however, our salaries are not being released,” he said.

Wajahat said that their children and other family members are suffering as they don’t have any other resources to feed their families.

“Government should come clean that whether they want to continue with the PSUs. If they want to continue these PSU, they should frame a proper policy for that. We don’t want to die of starvation at our homes. We have now decided to hit roads to seek justice for ourselves,” he said.

He said that the government had given them assurances but despite that their salaries are not being released. “Yesterday three of our colleagues who were working in JK Cements died because their salaries were not being released and they had no money to buy medicines,” Wajahat said.

He said that they have lost patience now and if the government did not budge they will hit the roads and launch a massive agitation to seek justice for themselves.

Man dies as tractor turns turtle in Sopore

A man lost his life on Sunday morning as tractor turned turtle in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramula district.

Quoting an official news agency KS reported that a man was critically injured on Sunday morning after a tractor in which he was travelling turned turtle at Badambagh.

He said soon after the incident, he was immediately taken to Sub District Hospital Sopore, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A police officer confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Farooz Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hamid Bhat resident of Badambagh.

Srinagar police on Saturday said to have arrested a Srinagar Municpal Corporation (SMC) Corporator for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking.

They said strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the brave victim, the accused has been identified as Aqib Ahmed Renzu resident of Nishat Srinagar.

Case under FIR No 50/2023 U/S 354, 354A, 354D registered in RM Bagh Police station.

Srinagar police on X informed, “One SMC corporator Aqib Ahmed Renzu of Nishat Srinagar arrested for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking. Strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the brave victim. FIR No 50/2023 U/S 354, 354A, 354D registered in RM Bagh Police station.”

Man slips to death while collecting firewood in central Kashmir

A man died after he slipped while collecting firewood in Rezan forest area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.

An official told that Showkat Ahmad Tekri, son of Gh Hassan Tekri of Gujerbasti Rezan slipped and fell down from the upper reaches of the forest area, which resulted in his on spot death.

The heavy rainfall had triggered slippery conditions in the area.

He said that soon after the incident, police reached the spot and recovered his body.

“After medico-legal formalities, his body will be handed over to her family members for the last rites,” he said. KNO
